what is a cyanotype?
A cyanotype is a photo created from sunlight + chemicals that react to sunlight! In my art, I place flowers, feathers, and anything translucent on top of fabric coated with reactive chemicals, and then leave it all out in the sun. The fabric exposed to sunlight will turn blue, and the fabric occluded will remain white.
do solarstains contain lead?
Yes. Leaded solder is the connective glue that holds the pieces together, and leaded came creates a frame around the compositions. Skin contact with lead is relatively safe compared to inhaling or ingesting it, so just make sure you wash your hands well after hanging your piece!
how can i clean my piece?
Spray glass cleaner onto a clean microfiber cloth and gently wipe the glass. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the piece as liquid may leak between panes of glass!
